In an interview, Shirley Blumberg described her walk to and from work. Her walk to work allowed her to get into the head space of designing, while her walk home allowed her to remove herself from the stresses of the office. I wanted to design the artist’s residence on those principles to ensure that the occupant would engage with the surrounding landscape. Upon ascending the ramp the occupant would have the opportunity to see the journey they have taken to arrive at their studio.
